About The Event

The role of philanthropy in advancing development attracts a lot of attention. Health and education, by far, are the sectors that benefit the most from philanthropy. Globally, philanthropy is the third provider of health funding in developing countries. Africa is the region that benefits most from philanthropy. In this context, the philanthropic sector is seen as a useful vector for achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs). This seminar calls into consideration long-held assumptions about the volume, nature, and potential of philanthropic enterprises’ engagement in developing countries, and the role they can play to support the SDGs. It examines the sector's resource flows for development purposes, as well as foundations' priorities, practices and partnering behaviours. It presents fresh perspectives and action-oriented recommendations to optimise philanthropy’s role in support of sustainable development. The seminar offers practical insights for government policy influencers and decision makers in civil society organisations, social enterprises and foundations.
